ANDHERI: Officials of Khar police station are on the lookout for one Mukesh Pawar who stole platinum jewellery valued at Rs 6 lakh from a shop at Link Square Mall on Linking Road.
Pawar had been employed as a salesman at the showroom 10 days ago and the owner had not run a background check, police officials said.
The theft came to light on the morning of June 26 when shop owner Vivek Dhawan took out jewellery from the locker and found that a couple of items were missing.

Investigating officer Navnath Sonawane said: "Dhawan saw Pawar on CCTV footage, taking a few gold chains and rings.''
Pawar had applied for the job after reading an advertisement given in the newspaper by the owner. During the interview, Pawar had told Dhawan that he was from Rajasthan and had earlier worked in jewellery shops at Kalbadevi.
Police officials suspect the accused had created a false identity. They checked the Andheri (E) Maheshwari Chawl address given by him and also enquired at jewellery shops in Kalbadevi, but to no avail. Senior inspector Ajit Sawant said: "We have circulated Pawar's picture to other jewellery showrooms in the area so that the owners can inform us if he applies for a job.''
